Outline

This school was created by Takenouchi Nakatsukasadayu Hisamori, Lord of Ichinose of Haga castle in the province of Mimasaka(present-day Okayama) during the Sengoku era, when the armored confrontations used to take place everyday.

In 1532,when Hisamori was praying at Atago Temple, an old man appeared to him and showed him a series of techniques; and by breaking in front of him a 72cm long bokuto into two, he told him 'The long arm is useless. The half is enough. This is the kogusoku.' This is how the koshinomawari-kogusoku started as a fighting technique(kumiuchi)

After their training trips, Hitachinosuke-Hisakatsu and Kaganosuke-Hisayoshi, son and grandson of Hisamori, established a school that gathers more than 500 movements of koshinomawari-kogusoku, kenpo-taijutsu, kenjutsu, bojutsu, hobakujutsu, etc.

The Takenouchiryu-school is considered to be the source of jujutsu. Its reputation was so important that people use to say 'one must not wave the stick in mimasaka', meaning one would by assaulted by the bare hands of his own disciples.

Nowadays, the department of Okayama has classified the surroundings of central dojo as an important historical site, being the birth place of Takenouchi-ryu. The method is passed over from generation to generation in the Takenouchi family until the present day.
